Fred Asplen leads this three day event, 5 hour sessions, learning how to hew a log with a hand axe. "Hewing" a log involves carving flat surfaces on each side - an ancient, important skill for building a home and other large structures.

Please bring an axe or hatchet ready to work with. We'll have some to borrow for our Sloyd class if you aren't able to bring your own.

Fred is an accomplished woodworker and craftsman in Berea. To learn more about Fred, check this article from last year: https://fox56news.com/news/spirit-of-bluegrass/kentucky-woodworker-makes-things-the-old-fashioned-way/

Minimum age: 16 (adult must be present for minors).

This is a pay what you can event, with limited seats - there WILL be waitlists. We encourage you to give what you are able to (even if that's $0). Our grant with Berea College allows us to do what we can to make these events as accessible as possible.

Our event system does not allow for sliding scale pricing - please pay through our Paypal account (credit cards accepted) or through cash at the door.

We
WILL be reaching out as the event approaches to make sure you can still attend, if you've signed up.
