About this event
Gabe Strand leads this weekend workshop covering a beginner green woodworking project - the Shrink Pot!
From Gabe:
Making a shrink pot is the perfect introduction to greenwoodworking. Basically a small vessel, a shrink pot is a hollowed out piece of green (wet) wood. A dry base is fitted into a groove in the bottom of the tube, and as the wet wood dries, it shrinks around the bottom, locking it in place. A lid can then be shaped in any number of ways: with slojd knife, bandsaw and disc sander, or even on the lathe. Students can incorporate carving, bark, milk paint, and decorative objects like stones into their creations.
This project:
- connects students to wood science, greenwood techniques, and their own creativity as designers.
- allows students to build hand tool skills on a small scale project.
